Athletics Tardy/Cut Policy
Serrano Athletics – Athletic No-Go List
At Serrano High School, we believe being a student-athlete means being held to a higher standard. Wearing SERRANO across your chest represents more than what you do on the field, court, track, or course. It represents how you carry yourself as a student and as a member of our school community.
As part of our continued effort to build a culture of accountability, responsibility, and pride, Serrano Athletics has implemented an Athletic No-Go List for attendance.
How the Athletic No-Go List Works
Any student-athlete who reaches 15 or more tardies and/or cuts will be placed on the Athletic No-Go List and will not be permitted to participate in any athletic contest, home or away, until their total is reduced below 15.
We also want our athletes to have opportunities to take responsibility and work their way off the list:
- Saturday School = 4 tardies removed
- Campus Beautification = 4 tardies removed
Athlete Responsibility – Forms Are Required
Simply attending Saturday School or Campus Beautification does not automatically remove tardies.
Student-athletes must come to the Athletics/ASB Office BEFORE attending and pick up the appropriate verification form. The form must be completed and signed by the appropriate staff member verifying attendance and then returned by the student-athlete to the Athletics/ASB Office.
It is the student-athlete’s responsibility to pick up the form, have it completed, and return it. Tardies will not be removed from the Athletic No-Go List without the completed Serrano Athletics verification form.
This is an important part of the process because accountability means more than simply showing up. Our athletes need to take ownership of completing the entire process.
This Is About Accountability, Not Punishment
The Athletic No-Go List is not intended to punish our athletes. It is designed to be a deterrent and to reinforce habits that we believe every student-athlete is capable of developing.
If our athletes can make it to practices, workouts, team meetings, and games on time, we believe they can make it to class on time as well.
We love our student-athletes, and because we care about them, we are going to expect a lot from them. Our athletes represent some of the best of the best at Serrano, and we believe they are capable of reaching any bar we set for them.
We are working to change the culture of Serrano Athletics. Winning will always matter, but developing responsible young people matters more. Athletics should help prepare our students to become better teammates, students, leaders, employees, parents, spouses, and members of their communities.
We aren’t going to lower the bar. We are going to help our athletes reach it.
Tradition. Excellence. Pride.
